Clouds

We've had a productive day at the other airfield. So Ian and I are going for a quick one.

We share a car to Popham and get our plane out from the rear parking and check it over - working virtually seamlessly we very quickly have it DI'd and fuelled in record time. We then do the other formalities such as booking out and go out to the plane - then there is the bit which doesn't go so well, where the final check shows we are still tied down - just as well we do these checks!

Ian has the first stint. He takes off and heads to the north-west. We see an interesting cloud formation that isn't too high up and decide to go and play with it. At one point I notice the halo (or glory) where the plane is directly between the sun and the cloud. The light passing the plane gets refracted back to us and creates a series of full circle rainbows. There is also the shadow of the aircraft in the middle. We go round again for another look and some photos - very pretty.

Ian's son Jon is also flying circuits. Due to traffic, has to fly the large GA circuit and lands on 26.

Now its my turn - I take off I head south for a change. After a couple of clearing turns, I entertain myself with a few steep banked turns - first one perfect and get my own wake turbulence but gain a little height on the turn in the opposite direction. Then a few lazy eights. Then back to the airfield and join for 26. The sun is right in my eyes on final making landing difficult.

Only a quickie but most enjoyable.
