PFL Practice
Another opportunity for an evening flight - no special plan, just a local.
I take off from 03 and head north to Hannington Mast as I often do. However, before I get there I decide it is about time I did some practice forced landing (PFL) practice. Throttle closed, I select a suitable field that is north of the power lines. The approach is fine, although when I get lower, I find there is a little more upslope than I expected. But it all goes well and just before touchdown I hit the throttle and climb away. All good. Buoyed by this, whilst heading south I pull another one. This time, I find there is habitation too close to my target field - not a problem if it were a real emergency, but no need to upset the locals for a practice.
A glutton for punishment, or possibly don't want to finish on a failed attempt I soon pull another one just south of Whitchurch. Pick a field, a sort of constant aspect and what would have been another good landing. Happy with that, so I celebrate with a couple steep banked turns and return to the airfield. Five touch and go's later I land and I land just before the 8 o'clock deadline. I'm happy!
