Brimpton Fly-In

After numerous attempts to do a fly-out to Brimpton, today is now a fly-in at Brimpton. Weather looks OK, so Ian and I are going. Once we are checked out and PPR'd, we take off with Ian at the helm and head north. It's not a very long journey from Popham to Brimpton, so he head to the north west for a bit of a fly-around. There are scattered clouds at a relatively low level, so he finds a suitable gap to climb up through them. Always a lovely view. We then drop down towards Newbury and call for joining downwind. All goes well and we land on runway 25.

There is a large group of aero-modellers with numerous aircraft. They put on various flying displays throughout the day, which are quite impressive. There are also some jets that also sound (as well as look) impressive. Each time another (proper sized) aircraft comes in to final, the models have to land and get out the way, but are quickly airborne again afterwards.

There is also a small collection of classic cars in the little paddock to the east of the clubhouse, which are interesting. We have a chat to a rather eccentric lady owner of one of them.

All good fun and after some barbecue burgers, we have to make our way home again - my turn this time. After checkover and warmup, I backtrack 25, line-up and takeoff. I too want to have a little fun on the short journey back to Popham, so I enjoy a few steep-banked turns and a few other manoeuvres. Then back to the airfield for an overhead join for 23.
