Old Sarum

Today, Ian and I are going for a quick flight to Old Sarum, along with Jac in her plane. I have the outbound leg.

By the time we are fuelled,checked-out and ready to leave, Jac has already left. I take off on 26 and head to the south-west. No parachuting at the moment, so I could do a standard approach. However, the wind is quite crosswind and a bit gusty - on final approach I place the plane to the left hand side of the wide runway so that I can land across it at an angle. Further challenged by a big sink over the threshold, I get her down safely.

We get some lunch and tea.

On the way home, Ian retraces the outbound route until we get to Bullington Cross. Here he decides to deviate a little (we aren't in a rush) and also gets a PFL practice in - all very applaudible.

When we get back we wash the plane down whilst she cools down and then we replace the broken exhaust brackets. This involves taking all the cowlings off, moving the oil tank, shifting an exhaust header and I also had to modify one of my new ball-ended allen keys to complete the job. This take a little longer than we would have hoped. We only get to give the engine a quick test run to ensure there are no leaks particularly with the exhaust.
